Here is a fabulous, all original Rado Purple Horse from 1967. The brushed black dial has a steel Rado anchor logo at 12 o’clock and a Purple Horse emblem at 6 o’clock and is in very fine condition, with just a couple of small marks around the dial. It has chunky steel hour markers. The baton hands are in fine condition with central purple paint stripes. The original plexiglass crystal with a cyclops window at 3 o’clock displays the date, which can be semi quick-set by first turning the hands through midnight so the date changes, then immediately turning the hands backwards to 20:30 and then forward through midnight again until the date changes. Repeat as necessary.
The stainless steel is in good condition showing overall wear, perhaps most notable at around 1 and 7 o’clock. The stainless steel case with batman lugs and the original crowns is in good condition, showing some marks and nicks throughout both at the lugs and on the case sides. The stainless steel case back is in fine condition with a well preserved Seahorse medallion at its center and a number of scratches and marks, in particular around the notches in the rim from attempts at opening the case without the proper tools or skills. The case does not appear to ever have been polished.
The watch comes on an after market leather strap and buckle of good quality.
Inside the watch, the high grade ETA 2472 movement beats strongly and accurately to within about +-10 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in March 2024 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.
The Purple Horse was a dressier model, and the black dial on this one makes it look great on the wrist. This is a perfect daily driver with that vintage look many collectors treasure.
