Here is a wonderful and very rare, all original LeCoultre Memovox HPG (High Precision Guarantee) from 1971 in an oversized version. The unusually shaped two tone dial is in fine condition, with an overall silver sunburst finish and a navy blue chapter ring. The chapter ring has variably shaped steel block hour markers with white contrast. Outside the chapter ring is an extended minute track, which shows some discoloration and wear around the edges, most pronounced at around 11 o’clock. The inner dial has a painted minute track with lume stripes at the hours. At the center of the dial is the silver sunburst alarm disc with the Memovox and HPG logos. The disc rotates when setting the alarm time and a white arrow marker indicates the set time. There is some wear on the inner disc, most notably at around 3 o’clock in the photos. The syringe hands are in good condition, with the original lume intact, albeit somewhat degraded and with a tiny hole in the minute hand lume. The window at 6 o’clock displays the date, which can be semi quick-set by repeatedly turning the hands through midnight, then backwards through 21:30 and then through midnight again. Repeat as necessary.

The alarm is set with the top crown. Winding the spring for the alarm is done by rotating the crown while fully depressed. By pulling the crown out one can rotate the inner dial to set the arrow at the desired alarm time. When the set time is reached the alarm buzzes loudly for about 15-20 seconds when fully wound. When the crown is in the outer position the alarm does not ring.

The large elliptical steel case with integrated lugs and the original crowns has a brushed face and polished sides and is in fine condition, with some overall wear both on the face and the sides. Perhaps most notable is a deeper scratch at the top of the face. The stainless steel case back is in fine condition with a radial finish and ligh overall wear. The case does not appear to ever have been polished.

Inside the watch, LeCoultre’s exquisite 916 movement beats strongly and accurately to within about +12 seconds per day at the at the time very high rate of 28800 bph, which is why the model got the name HPG. The watch was fully serviced in August 2024 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.

The Memovox is one of the most iconic watches in history, and this unusual HPG version looks fantastic on the wrist with its large size and very cool shape and dial. This is a great collector’s watch and an investment that will grow in value over the years.
