Here is a fabulous, all original Heuer Cortina from 1977 in a large size for the era. The white enamel dial is in very fine condition, with a black script Heuer logo at 12 o’clock and two subdials for the chronograph counters. It has Roman numeral hour markers and sub-second markings along the edge of the dial. The 3 o’clock subdial displays the chronograph minute count and the 9 o’clock subdial displays the chronograph hour count. A few tiny aging spots can be seen around the dial, none of which are really visible to the naked eye. The black baton hands are in very fine condition. The black framed window at 6 o’clock displays the date, which can be semi quick-set by turning the hands through midnight so the date changes and then immediately turn the hands backwards to about 22:00 and then through midnight again so the date changes. Repeat as necessary.
The stainless steel bezel is in fine condition with some overall wear, perhaps most pronounced at around 11-12 o’clock. The octagon shaped stainless steel case with the original crown and pushers is in fine condition, with a radially brushed face and polished sides. The face shows some overall wear, most notable at the top and bottom, and there are also some marks on each case side. The stainless steel case back is in good condition, with a brushed center and a few notable marks, in particular around the notches in the rim from attempts at opening the case without the proper tools or skills.
The integrated original bracelet is in fine condition visually but shows some stretching. It has an extension piece attached to it and is large enough for big wrists. Make sure the specific bracelet size listed in the details is not too small for your wrist as finding spare links for old bracelets is very difficult. The bracelet can be shortened by up to about 2cm simply by moving a spring bar in the clasp.
Inside the watch, the high grade caliber 12 movement beats strongly and accurately to within about +-12 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in January 2024 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.
The Cortina was named after the posh Italian ski resort and was the first integrated bracelet sports chronograph Heuer launched. This is a fabulous piece of watch history that will add to any vintage collection.
