Here is a very rare, near mint, all original Glycine Combat from 1968. The black dial is in excellent condition, with a white logo and lettering and very few marks of wear. The chapter ring has yellow lume Arabic numeral hour markers with 24 hour white marking inside them. The wide baton hands have the original lume intact and are in very fine condition. The cutout window at 3 o’clock displays the date, which can be semi quick-set by repeatedly turning the hands through midnight, then backwards through 20:30 and then through midnight again. The watch has a very cool stop lever function; when the crown is pulled into time-setting mode, the seconds hand will continue running until it stops against a tiny wire at the 12 hour mark (top of the dial).
The sandblasted stainless steel bezel is in very fine condition with only light overall wear. The sandblasted stainless steel case with the original crown is in very fine condition with only light overall wear. The stainless steel case back is in fine condition showing some notable scratches.
The watch comes on an after market leather strap and buckle of good quality.
Inside the watch, Glycine’s version of the ETA 2472 beats strongly and accurately to within about +12 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in June 2023 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.
The original Combat was made in only 100 pieces, and finding one in this condition is very rare. The model was relaunched a few years back in a diver style, while the original Combat was a no nonsense field watch. This is a fabulous specimen of the original and it will serve its next owner well for many years to come.
