Here is a wonderful, all original Grand Seiko GS45 Hi-Beat 36000 from 1968. The silver sunburst dial is in fine condition, with steel Seiko and GS logos and a slight patina covering most of the dial. It has faceted steel hour markers, double markers at 12 o’clock. There are a few marks at the bottom half of the dial. The faceted dauphine hands are in fine condition, with the characteristic black contrast stripe down the middle and some marks of wear. The hack stops the seconds hand when the crown is pulled out to set the time, allowing for more accurate time-setting.
The wide stainless steel bezel is in very fine condition with light overall wear, most notable at around 1 o’clock. The large and angular stainless steel case with integrated lugs and the original GS crown has a brushed face and polished, sloped sides. It is in very fine condition, with some overall wear mostly towards the lugs. The stainless steel case back has a well preserved gold GS medallion and is in very fine condition with a few marks.
The watch comes on an after market bovine leather strap and buckle of good quality.
Inside the watch, Seiko’s fantastic 4520A movement beats at the then insane rate of 36000 bph and runs to within about +-8 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in March 2024 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.
