Here is a wonderful, all original Grand Seiko GS56 Hi-Beat from 1971. The silver sunburst dial has taken on a creamy patina and is in fine condition, with a steel Seiko and GS logos and black strip hour markers, double at 12 o’clock. There are a few spots around the dial, perhaps most prominent to the left of the GS logo. The tapered baton hands are in very fine condition with the characteristic central black contrast and the seconds hand without the central hole. When the crown is pulled out to set time, the hack stops the seconds hand for more accurate time setting. The steel framed window at 3 o’clock shows the date and the weekday in Kanji and English. Both can be quick-set with the crown pulled out to the middle position. This should only be done with the hands at the bottom half of the dial.
The stainless steel bezel is in good condition with some overall wear, perhaps most pronounced at around 1, 3 and 8 o’clock. The angular cushion stainless steel case with integrated lugs and the original GS crown is in fine condition, with a brushed face and polished, sloped sides. It shows some overall wear both on the face and the sides, perhaps most notable at the left case side and above the crown along the bevel. The stainless steel case back has a well preserved gold GS medallion and some overall wear.
The watch comes on an after market stainless steel Milanese bracelet of good quality.
Inside the watch, Seiko’s high grade 5646A movement beats strongly and accurately to within about +-10 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in August 2023 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.
