Here is a fabulous, all original Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date from 1972. The silver slate pattern dial is in very fine condition, with a steel Rolex crown at 12 o’clock and steel railroad style hour markers with lume dots at the outer ends. The baton hands are in good condition with some wear visible on the hour and minute hands under close scrutiny. At 3 o’clock the manually set date is displayed through a cyclops window in the original plexiglass crystal. The hack feature stops the seconds hand when the crown is pulled out to hand-setting position, allowing for accurate time setting.
The stainless steel bezel is in fine condition with some overall wear, perhaps most pronounced at around 3 o’clock. The stainless steel case is in fine condition, with a radially brushed face and polished sides. It shows light overall wear mostly at the case sides. The original screw-down crown works as it should. The stainless steel case back is in very fine condition, with a brushed center and a few marks. It carries and engraving showing the watch was originally a gift of love. The case does not appear to ever have been polished.
The original Oyster bracelet is in fine condition visually but shows some stretching. It is large enough for big wrists. Make sure the specific bracelet size listed in the details is not too small for your wrist as finding spare links for old bracelets is very difficult. The bracelet can be shortened by up to about 2cm simply by moving a spring bar in the clasp.
Inside the watch, Rolex’ high grade 1575 movement, marked as 1570 as was common, beats strongly and accurately to within about +-8 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in January 2024 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.
This is a fabulous watch on the wrist with that stunning dial and the original bracelet, and unpolished vintage Rolex’s in fine condition are exceedingly rare. This is a wonderful daily driver that will serve you well for decades to come.
