Here is a wonderful, all original King Seiko 52KS Special from 1975. The silver sunburst dial is in fine condition, with steel Seiko and KS logos and faceted steel bar hour markers with black contrast, double at 12 o’clock. There are very few marks of wear on the dial but some wear along the edge of the rim around 11-12 o’clock. The tapered hands with black contrast stripes down the middle are in very fine condition. The hack stops the seconds hand when the crown is pulled out to set the time. The steel framed window at 3 o’clock displays the quick-set date and weekday. The weekday is in Kanji and English with blue lettering for Saturday and red for Sunday. Note that the quick-set of the date winds the movement at the same time.
The stainless steel bezel is in very fine condition with only light overall wear. The uniquely shaped recognizable stainless case with the original KS crown and embedded lugs is in very fine condition with sharp angles and facets, apart from a few notable marks towards the lower left lug. The stainless steel case back is in very fine condition with a few scratches and marks.
The watch comes on an after market stainless steel bracelet of good quality. It is in fine visual condition but shows some stretching. It is large enough for big wrists. Make sure the specific bracelet size listed in the details fits your wrist as finding spare links for old bracelets is very difficult.
Inside the watch, Seiko’s high grade 5256A movement beats strongly and accurately to within about +-12 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in January 2023 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.
This was the last version of the KS, and it was dubbed KS Special since the watchmakers thought they might never make mechanical watches ever again as quartz watches were rapidly surging. Luckily for all vintage watch lovers that never happened!
