Here is a stunning, all original Grand Seiko GS45 Hi-Beat from 1973. The linen dial has taken on a lovely orange patina around the center and looks awesome. It has steel Seiko and GS logos and faceted steel strip hour markers, double at 12 o’clock. There are barely any marks on the dial itself but slight wear can be seen around the rim of the dial at around 2 o’clock. The faceted baton hands are in very fine condition. When the crown is pulled out to set time, the hack stops the seconds hand for more accurate time setting. The steel framed window at 3 o’clock displays the quick-set date. The quick-set function should only be used with the hour hand at the bottom half of the dial.

The stainless steel bezel is in fine condition with some overall wear, perhaps most noticeable at around 4 and 5 o’clock. The large and angular stainless case with integrated lugs and the original GS crown is in fine condition, with a sunburst face and polished sides. It shows some overall wear with a few nicks and marks along the edges and towards the lugs, most notably at the outside of the lower right lug. The stainless steel case back has a well preserved gold GS medallion and is in very fine condition, with a few scratches and marks. The case does not appear to ever have been polished.

The watch comes on an after market leather strap and buckle of good quality.

Inside the watch, Seiko’s high grade 4522A movement ticks away at the then insane frequency of 36000 beats per hour, beating strongly and accurately to within about +-8 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in November 2024 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.

They remain some of the most iconic and collectible vintage watches with an outstanding design and engineering quality.
