Here is a wonderful, all original Grand Seiko GS45 Hi-Beat from 1970. The silver sunburst dial is in fine condition, with steel Seiko and GS logos and faceted steel bar hour markers with black contrast, double at 12 o’clock. There are a few marks and small discoloration spots around the dial, perhaps most pronounced to the right of the GS logo and along the edge of the dial at around 2 and 5 o’clock. The tapered baton hands are in very fine condition, the hour hand with a central black stripe and the minute hand painted black. When the crown is pulled out to set time, the hack stops the seconds hand for more accurate time setting. The steel framed window at 3 o’clock displays the quick-set date. The quick-set function should only be used with the hands at the bottom half of the dial.

The stainless steel bezel is in good condition with some overall wear, such as at 4, 5, 6 and 9 o’clock. The c-shape stainless case with integrated lugs and the original GS crown is in very fine condition, with a radially brushed face and brushed sides. The stainless steel case back has a well preserved gold GS medallion and is in very fine condition with a few marks. It carries an engraving congratulating the first owner with a 20 year work anniversary.

The watch comes on an after market leather strap and buckle of good quality.

Inside the watch, Seiko’s high grade 4522A movement ticks away at the then insane frequency of 36000 beats per hour, beating strongly and accurately to within about +-8 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in December 2022 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.

The GS45 is one of the most iconic versions of the Grand Seiko, and this watch is a great example why. The wonderful, uncluttered design and the ultra smooth movement of the seconds hand make this a watch that is very easy to love seeing on your wrist.
