Here is a fantastic, all original Seikomatic Chronometer from 1965. The silver sunburst dial is in excellent condition, with a steel Seiko logo and faceted black polished steel bar hour markers, double at 12 o’clock. There is a small spot close to the 7 o’clock hour marker, which isn’t really visible to the naked eye. The faceted dauphine hands are in very fine condition, with a few tiny marks visible under magnification. When the crown is pulled out to set time, the hack stops the seconds hand for more accurate time setting. The steel framed window at 3 o’clock shows the weekday and date, of which the date can be quick-set with the crown pulled out to the middle position and the weekday has a semi quick-set function with turning the hands first through midnight to 02:00, then backwards to 22:00 and then forwards to 02:00 again. Repeat as necessary.

The stainless steel watch case with wonderful twisted lugs and the original crown at 4 o’clock is in fine condition, with a few marks both at the lugs and on each case side. The stainless steel case back has a well preserved gold Seiko lion medallion and is in fine condition, with a few scratches and marks. The case does not appear to ever have been polished.

The watch comes on an after market bovine leather strap and buckle of good quality.

Inside the watch, Seiko’s high grade 6246A movement beats strongly and accurately to within about +-8 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in January 2025 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.

Seiko has made a lot of outstanding watches, and the Seikomatic Chronometer was on par with the Grand Seiko for both design and quality, later being named the 62GS. This watch looks stunning on the wrist with its fabulous dial and big size and it will make its next owner very happy indeed.
