Here is a wonderful and rare, all original Glycine Airman Special from 1964. The black dial is in fine condition, with a white Glycine logo and lettering. The chapter ring has white 24 hour lettering with large lume dots at the inner end of every second hour, and lume stripes at 12 and 24 hours. The wide arrow shaped hour hand has the original lume intact, as does the minute and seconds hands. Note that all of the lume is degraded. The trapezoid window at 3 o’clock displays the date, which can be semi quick-set by repeatedly turning the hands through midnight, then backwards through 20:30 and then through midnight again. The watch has a very cool stop lever function; when the crown is pulled into time-setting mode, the seconds hand will continue running until it stops against a tiny wire at the 24 hour mark (top of the dial).

The rotating stainless steel bezel is in fine condition with some overall wear, perhaps most notable at around the 13 and 20 markers. It is unlocked with the bottom screw-down crown and can be set to keep time in a different time zone. The stainless steel case with the original crowns is in fine condition with the long lugs characteristic of this model and some overall wear both at the lugs and the case sides. The stainless steel case back is in fine condition showing some wear. The case does not appear to ever have been polished.

The watch comes on an after market leather strap and buckle of good quality.

Inside the watch, Glycine’s version of the venerable AS 1700/01 beats strongly and accurately to within about +12 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in December 2024 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.
