Here is a fabulous, all original Vulcain Cricket from 1973. The dark bronze dial is in very fine condition, with a golden Vulcain logo and golden block hour markers with lume dots at the outer ends. The tapered golden baton hands are in fine condition, with the original lume intact. The steel alarm hand has an arrow tip.

The single crown winds both the mainspring and the alarm spring. To operate the watch, first make sure that the crown is completely pushed in. To wind the watch, turn the crown counter-clockwise. To wind the alarm, turn the crown clockwise. If resistance is felt in one of the directions, that barrel is completely wound up. Do not force further. Continue to wind in the other direction until you feel resistance there as well.

To set the time: pull the crown completely out and turn it clockwise. Push the crown completely in after setting the time. To set and enable the alarm: press the pusher above the crown completely in. The crown pops out. Turn the crown counter-clockwise to set the the alarm hand to the desired time. Push the crown completely in again. To disable the alarm: press the pusher halfway down. The crown now turns freely in both directions. In this position the alarm is disabled. NEVER pull the pusher out manually, that might damage the mechanism.

The gold plated case with the original crown and pusher and elegant, faceted lugs is in fine condition, with some overall wear along some of the edges, most notable on the left case side and lugs. The stainless steel case back with a brushed finish and Vulcain engravings is in very fine condition with a few marks. The watch has a resonance back on the outside of the actual case back, part of the reason why the Cricket is so much louder than other alarm watches.

The watch comes on an after market leather strap of good quality with the original Vulcain buckle in fine condition.

Inside the watch the high grade MSR 2S beats strongly and accurately to within about +-12 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in December 2025 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.

The Cricket was the first alarm wrist watch and is quite unparalleled as such. It is much louder than for instance the Memovox due to the patented resonance back and it’s great fun to see people’s reactions when the alarm goes off! This is a wonderful watch to wear with its fabulous dial and overall great condition and it’s a great conversation starter with its history and background.
