Here is a wonderful, all original Tudor Submariner from 1988. The blue sunburst dial is in very fine condition, with a white Tudor shield logo at 12 o’clock, white lettering and barely any marks. It has large lume hour markers, triangular at the poles and circular in between. The Mercedes hands with the original lume are in very fine condition. When the crown is pulled out to set the time or date, the hack feature stops the seconds hand so the time can be set precisely. At 3 o’clock, the cyclops eye displays the quick-set date. Quick-setting the date should only be done with the hour hand at the bottom half of the dial.

The large stainless steel bezel is in fine condition with some wear to the blue insert, most notable a scratch at around the 40 mark. The stainless steel case with the original screw down Rolex crown is in fine condition, with a radially brushed face and polished sides. It shows a few marks towards the lugs and more marks on the case sides, in particular on the left side. The case back has the Oyster ridges and Rolex inscription, and is in fine condition with some overall wear. The case does not appear to ever have been polished.

The original steel Oyster bracelet is in fine condition with some stretching and light overall wear. It is large enough for big wrists. Make sure the specific bracelet size listed in the details is not too small for your wrist as finding spare links for old bracelets is very difficult. The bracelet can be shortened by up to about 2cm simply by moving a spring bar in the clasp.

Inside the watch, Tudor’s version of ETA’s high grade 2824 movement beats strongly and accurately to within about +-8 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in February 2025 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.

The Tudor Submariner borrows many of the design clues from its bigger sibling but still manages to maintain its own style. The fabulous and rare blue dial and the great overall condition makes this watch stand out on the wrist and it will serve its next owner well for many years to come.
