Here is a wonderful, all original King Seiko 44KS Chronometer from 1965 with a very unusual factory fault. The silver sunburst dial is in very fine condition, with a steel Seiko logo and faceted steel bar hour markers, double markers at 12 o’clock. The Seiko logo is slightly misshapen, a small factory flaw that adds to the collectability of the watch and makes it a real conversation starter. The faceted dauphine hands are in very fine condition, the seconds hand with the characteristic leaf tip. The hack stops the seconds hand when the crown is pulled out to set the time.

The stainless steel bezel is in fine condition with only light overall wear. The stainless case with the original KS crown and long, heavy lugs is in fine condition with some overall wear, mostly at the lugs and in particular the upper lugs. The stainless steel case back has the gold lion medallion and is in fine condition with a few marks. The case does not appear to ever have been polished.

The watch comes on an after market leather strap and buckle of good quality.

Inside the watch, Seiko’s high grade 4420A movement beats strongly and accurately to within about +-10 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in May 2026 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.

The 44KS is perhaps the epitome of the “Grammar of Design” as formulated by Taro Tanaka, aiming to have Seiko watches literally outshine their competitors on the store shelves with flat surfaces and multiple facets beautifully reflecting the light. This is a watch that looks great on the wrist while carrying a lot of history with it.
