Here is a fabulous and rare, all original Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Mariner HPG from 1971. The black dial is in very fine condition, with a silver script JLC logo and a diamond marker at 12 o’clock. There are a few aging spots scattered around the dial, none of which are really visible to the naked eye. The baton hands are in very fine condition with the original lume intact albeit somewhat degraded. The window at 3 o’clock displays the weekday and date, of which the date can be semi quick-set by pressing the crown in. The quick-set function should only be used with the hour hand at the bottom half of the dial.

The solid 14K yellow gold bezel is in very fine condition with just a few marks, such as at about 6 and 12 o’clock. The solid 14K yellow gold case with the original crown and slightly spread lugs is in very fine condition with only light overall wear, mostly towards the lugs. The solid 14K yellow gold case back is in very fine condition with a brushed finish and just a few marks. The case does not appear to ever have been polished.

The watch comes on an after market leather strap and buckle of good quality.

Inside the watch, JLC’s high grade 164 movement beats strongly and accurately at the then insane rate of 36000 bph and keeps time to within about +-10 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in February 2026 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.

The Master Mariner was JLC’s top line at the time, and the HPG (High Precision Guarantee) versions were the cream of the crop. This watch is a great testament to that legacy with its wonderful dial and excellent overall condition.
