Here is a fabulous, all original LeCoultre Memodate Automatic from 1964 in a very large size for the era. The silver dial is in very fine condition, with an inner and outer dial. The radially brushed inner dial has the Memodate lettering and a lume filled triangle showing the alarm time. The silver sunburst outer dial has a steel JLC logo and elegant art deco Roman numeral style hour markers at the poles. In between are grooved steel block hour markers. At the inner edge of the outer dial is a minute track with lume dots for the hours and black stripes for the minutes. There is a faint mark on the inner dial at around 12 o’clock in the photos and on the outer dial at around the 5 o’clock hour marker. The baton hands are in very fine condition, with the original lume intact albeit degraded. The steel framed window at 3 o’clock displays the date, which can be semi quick-set by repeatedly turning the hands through midnight, then backwards through 20:30 and then through midnight again. Repeat as necessary.
The alarm is set with the top crown. Winding the spring for the alarm is done by rotating the crown while fully depressed. By pulling the crown out one can rotate the inner dial to set the arrow at the desired alarm time. When the set time is reached the alarm buzzes loudly for about 15-20 seconds when fully wound. When the crown is in the outer position the alarm does not ring.
The stainless steel case with the original crowns and subtle spider lugs is in very fine condition, with only light overall wear. It has a radially brushed face/bezel and polished sides and lugs, showing just a few marks, mostly at the lugs. The stainless steel case back is in fine condition with a subtle radial central pattern and some overall wear. The case does not appear to ever have been polished.
The watch comes on an after market leather strap and buckle of good quality.
Inside the watch, LeCoultre’s exquisite 825 bumper automatic movement beats strongly and accurately to within about +15 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in April 2025 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.
The Memovox is one of the most iconic watches in history, and this early version with a date function – therefore called Memodate to distinguish that it shows the date – looks fantastic on the wrist with its wonderful dial and great overall condition. This is a watch that goes well with both formal and more casual wear and it’s an investment that will grow in value over the years.
Our watches are delivered in a luxury wooden watch box, fully serviced with a 12 month warranty that covers the mechanical functioning of the watch under normal use. We offer 14 days full return rights and are very proud of our reputation for outstanding customer satisfaction.
