Here is a fabulous, all original IWC Automatic caliber 853 from 1962. The silver sunburst dial is in excellent condition, with the script IWC logo and faceted steel hour markers, wider marker at 12 o’clock. It has the characteristic spheres demarking the minutes. The dauphine hands are in very fine condition.

The stainless steel bezel is in fine condition with some overall wear, perhaps most pronounced at around 4, 11 and 12 o’clock. The brushed stainless steel case with the original crown and elegantly curved drilled lugs is in fine condition with some overall wear, mostly at the lugs and in particular at the outside of the upper right lug. The case back is in fine condition, with a brushed center and a polished rim with some pitting marks. The case does not appear to ever have been polished.

The watch comes on an after market leather strap and buckle of good quality.

Inside the watch, IWC’s superb 853 movement with the Pellaton winding system beats strongly and accurately to within about +-12 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in May 2025 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.
