Here is a stunning, all original Grand Seiko GS61 Hi-Beat 36000 from 1969. The silver sunburst dial is in excellent condition, with golden Seiko and GS logos and barely any marks. It has faceted golden bar hour markers with black contrast, double markers at 12 o’clock. The golden tapered dauphine hands are in very fine condition, with central stripes of black paint and the characteristic seconds hand without a central hole. The steel framed window at 3 o’clock displays the quick-set date. The hack stops the seconds hand when the crown is pulled out to set the time, so the time can be set more accurately. Using the quick-set function should only be done with the hour hand at the bottom half of the dial.

The 14K solid gold bezel is in fine condition with some overall wear, perhaps most notable at around 2 o’clock. The angular gold capped case with the original GS crown and embedded lugs is in fine condition, with a brushed face and polished sides. It shows slight wear throughout, most prominently a scuff at around 10 o’clock. The stainless steel case back has a well preserved gold GS medallion and is in very fine condition with light overall wear. The case does not seem to ever have been polished.

The watch comes on an after market leather strap of good quality with the original gold plated Seiko buckle in good condition.

Inside the watch, Seiko’s high grade 6146A movement beats at the then insane speed of 36,000 bhp. It runs accurately to within about +-12 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in September 2026 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.

This is a wonderful example of the beauty and quality Seiko produced with their groundbreaking efforts in the 60’s. The watch looks great on the wrist with its large size and great condition and is a wonderful addition to any vintage collection.
