Here is a wonderful, all original Grand Seiko GS61 Hi-Beat from 1969. The silver sunburst dial has taken on a lovely patina and is in fine condition, with steel Seiko and GS logos and faceted steel block hour markers, double at 12 o’clock. The watch seems to have been stopped at 08:33 for a long time given a discolored imprint on the dial. There is a scatter of tiny aging spots around the dial and a faint hairline scratch just below the Seiko logo. The faceted dauphine hands with central black stripes are in very fine condition, with the characteristic seconds hand for this model without a center hole. When the crown is pulled out to set time, the hack stops the seconds hand for more accurate time setting. The steel framed window at 3 o’clock shows the quick-set date. The quick-set function should only be used with the hour hand at the bottom half of the dial.

The stainless steel bezel is in fine condition with some overall wear, such as at around 12, 3 and 9 o’clock. The large angular stainless steel case with integrated lugs and the original GS crown has a brushed face and polished sides and is in fine condition with some overall wear, mostly towards the lugs. The stainless steel case back has a well preserved GS medallion and is in very fine condition with just a few marks. The case does not seem to ever have been polished.

The after market Milanese steel bracelet is in very fine condition, with little stretching and light overall wear, mostly at the fold clasp. It is large enough for big wrists. Make sure the specific bracelet size listed in the details is not too small for your wrist.

Inside the watch, Seiko’s high grade 6145A movement beats strongly and accurately at the then insane rate of 36000 beats per hour, keeping time to within about +-8 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in October 2026 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.

The lovely patina on the dial with the very cool hand imprint is a real conversation starter, and the GS61 never fails to deliver on the mechanics. This is a very cool watch for a regular rotation or as a daily driver.
