Here is a wonderful, all original Grand Seiko GS56 Hi-Beat from 1974. The silver sunburst dial is in very fine condition, with steel Seiko and GS logos and black strip hour markers, double at 12 o’clock. There are a few tiny marks scattered around the dial, perhaps most notably around the 7 and 9 o’clock hour markers. The tapered black baton hands are in fine condition with the characteristic seconds hand without a center hole. When the crown is pulled out to set time, the hack stops the seconds hand for more accurate time setting. The steel framed window at 3 o’clock shows the weekday in Kanji and English and the date, which can both be quick-set with the crown pulled out to the middle position. The quick-set function should only be used with the hour hand at the bottom half of the dial.

The stainless steel bezel is in fine condition with some wear throughout. The angular cushion shaped stainless steel case with integrated lugs and the original GS crown is in fine condition, with a brushed face and polished, sloped sides. It shows some wear throughout, perhaps most prominent at around 6 o’clock. The stainless steel case back is in fine condition, with a well preserved gold GS medallion and a few marks. The case does not appear to ever have been polished.

The watch comes on an after market leather strap and buckle of good quality.

Inside the watch, Seiko’s high grade 5646A movement beats strongly and accurately to within about +-10 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in January 2025 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.
