Here is a fabulous, all original Grand Seiko GS56 Hi-Beat from 1973. The black dial is in very fine condition, with steel Seiko and GS logos and steel strip hour markers, double at 12 o’clock. There is a scatter of tiny wear spots around the dial, none of which are really visible to the naked eye. The tapered baton hands are in very fine condition, the characteristic seconds hand for this version without a center hole. When the crown is pulled out to set time, the hack stops the seconds hand for more accurate time setting. The steel framed window at 3 o’clock shows the weekday in Kanji and English and the date, which can both be quick-set with the crown pulled out to the middle position. The quick-set function should only be used with the hour hand at the bottom half of the dial.

The stainless steel bezel is in very fine condition with only light overall wear. The angular pillow stainless steel case with integrated lugs and the original GS crown is in very fine condition, with a brushed face and polished, sloped sides. It shows a few marks of wear along the sharp edges and on the slopes, perhaps most noticeable along the right case side. The stainless steel case back is in very fine condition, with a crisp and clean gold GS medallion and a few scratches and marks. The case does not appear to ever have been polished.

The watch comes on an after market leather strap and buckle of good quality.

Inside the watch, Seiko’s high grade 5646A movement beats strongly and accurately to within about +-10 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in November 2024 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.
