Here is a wonderful, all original Grand Seiko GS45 Hi-Beat from 1970. The silver sunburst dial is in very fine condition, with steel Seiko and GS logos and steel strip hour markers, double at 12 o’clock. There is slight wear along the edge of the dial, most notable at around 7 and 12 o’clock, which cannot be seen with the naked eye. The 9 o’clock hour markers shows slight discoloration. The tapered baton hands are in very fine condition, with the characteristic black stripe down the middle of the hour hand and a black minute hand. When the crown is pulled out to set time, the hack stops the seconds hand for more accurate time setting.

The stainless steel bezel is in fine condition with light overall wear, perhaps most notable at around 12 o’clock. The radially brushed stainless case has integrated lugs and the original GS crown and is in very fine condition with only light overall wear, most notable towards the lower left lug. The stainless steel case back has a slightly worn gold GS medallion and is in very fine condition, with a few small scratches and marks. The case does not appear to ever have been polished.

The watch comes on an after market leather strap and buckle of good quality.

Inside the watch, Seiko’s high grade 4520A movement ticks away at the then insane frequency of 36000 beats per hour, beating strongly and accurately to within about +-8 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in September 2024 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.
