Here is a wonderful, all original Grand Seiko Chronometer from 1965. The silver sunburst dial is in fine condition, with a steel Seiko logo and black lettering. It has faceted steel bar hour markers, double at 12 o’clock. There are a few marks around the center of the dial and also from the center towards 3 o’clock. Some wear can also be seen around the edge of the dial at around 3-5 and 11 o’clock. The faceted dauphine hands are in fine condition with a few marks around the base. When the crown is pulled out to set time, the hack stops the seconds hand for more accurate time setting. The steel framed window at 3 o’clock displays the quick-set date. The quick-set function should only be used with the hour hand at the bottom half of the dial.

The stainless steel bezel is in fine condition with a few marks throughout, perhaps most pronounced at around 12 o’clock. The stainless case with long, heavy lugs and the original crown is in fine condition with some overall wear, mostly at the lugs and in particular the bottom lugs but also with some marks on the case sides. The case back is in fine condition with a well preserved gold GS “Lion” medallion and some marks and scratches around the notches in the rim. The case does not appear to ever have been polished.

The watch comes on an after market leather strap and buckle of good quality.

Inside the watch, Seiko’s high grade 430 movement beats strongly and accurately to within about +-8 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in January 2025 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.

This early GS look just great on the wrist, with its faceted flats and simplistic elegance. This is a watch for any occasion that will also add to any vintage collection.
