FAQ

If you don't find the answer you are looking for, contact us here.

  • Where are you located?

We are located in Switzerland, close to Lausanne in the canton of Vaud.

  • Is VAT included in the listed price?

Most of our customers are from abroad, meaning they do not pay Swiss VAT. Therefore Swiss VAT is not included in the listed prices. For Swiss customers, the Swiss VAT of 8.1% is added to the price at checkout.

  • How much does shipping cost?

    Shipping is free worldwide.

  • How long does shipping take?

Shipping typically takes between 2 to 5 business days worldwide. Local customs may occasionally cause short delays.

  • Will I have to pay import duties?

You will most likely have to pay import duties/VAT, yes. If you are unaware of the VAT rate in your country, you can find it here.

  • Are the prices fixed?

We offer a discount to our YouTube subscribers. Contact us for questions.

  • Can I pay with PayPal?

Unfortunately not. We have to convert all sales into CHF and PayPal costs us about 16% in conversion and transaction fees. We cannot afford that.

  • Can I pay in instalments?

No, generally not. In very particular cases you can contact us to discuss.

  • Can I trade in an old watch?

Generally not, as we need to physically inspect a watch to see how much we need to invest in order to sell it with our warranty. In very particular cases you can contact us to discuss.

  • Can I come pick the watch up in person?

We are an online store only but can accommodate personal pick-up in exceptional cases. Contact us to agree details.

  • What does the warranty cover?

You can see our warranty here.

  • What is your return policy?

If you want to return your watch, let us know within 14 days after you received it. Then send the watch back to us in the same condition and packaging as you received it in. After we have received the watch in good order we will initiate the reimbursement in full, less any credit card processing fees we might have incurred, typically around 3%.

  • Can you ship the watches from another country?

No, we ship the watches from Switzerland.

  • Why is the site called vintagewatchservices.eu when you are not located in the EU?

The business was started in the Netherlands, hence the .eu domain name. This might change in the future.

  • Was does it mean that the watch was fully serviced?

During a service we first check the functionality of the watch, then we take the strap/bracelet off and remove the movement from the case. The case (and bracelet if metal) is cleaned in an ultrasonic tank. The movement is checked for tolerances and is then fully disassembled and cleaned in a watch cleaning machine. The parts are inspected for wear and replaced if necessary.

The movement is then reassembled with new lubricants and gaskets and is regulated and checked for functionality before being placed back in the case. The crystal is polished or replaced if necessary. The watch is then tested for 7 days and readjusted for time.

It is imperative that the new owner is delighted with the watch and that no issues are found, as we would then take the watch back and fix it at our expense.

  • Do you have videos of the watches?

No, we don't. Sharp still photos from all angles provide a much better impression of the watch than moving images at lower resolution.

  • How can you be sure a watch is original?

We fully disassemble every watch and inspect all the parts. During this process we can confidently determine whether the watch is original or not. If we are in any doubt about the originality we will not state it is original. If we know parts of the watch are not original, we will state so in the description.

  • What does it mean when it says in a listing that the watch is fully original?

When we state that a watch is fully original, it means that the movement, dial, case and hands of the watch were originally sold together as one watch. It also means that all the movement parts are original or genuine replacement parts from the manufacturer.

Note that some parts are consumables and are routinely changed, including the mainspring, gaskets and the crystal. A replaced consumable does not change whether a watch is original or not, just as a replaced consumable on a car does not change the car's originality.

  • Are the strap and buckle original?

The description of the watch will state whether the strap and buckle are original.

  • Are the images shown of the actual watch?

Yes, the images show the actual watch and the images have not been edited in any way. Note that due to the photos being shot in a so-called light box, there might be slight color differences when the watch is seen in natural daylight.

  • Can you provide an image of the watch on the wrist so I can see the size of it?

Seeing the watch on a different sized wrist does not provide a good impression of the size on your wrist. We suggest you measure other watches you might have to compare the size.

Note that vintage watches are generally a bit smaller than modern watches and the smaller size gives a more sophisticated impression than large watches.

  • Why does the description mention things I cannot see in the photos, e.g small spots on the dial?

We inspect the watches with a loupe and make sure we are as transparent as we can about the watch's flaws. That includes things that aren't visible to the naked eye, just to make sure no one feels misled if they inspect the watch under magnifcation (or have particularly sharp eyesight).

  • Can you service my watch?

We do not offer normal servicing but if you have a challenging, unique or valuable watch you can contact us to discuss.
