Here is a fabulous and very rare, all original Seiko Cronos Special Finish from 1962. The silver sunburst dial has a script Seiko Cronos logo with “special finish” below and is in overall very fine condition apart from some discoloration along the right edge, which looks more pronounced in the photos than to the naked eye. The faceted dauphine hands are in very fine condition.
The stainless steel case earned the “Special Finish” designation from the extraordinary effort put into the case. The bezel has a wave shaped surface and is in fine condition with a few noticeable marks at around 10 o’clock. The stainless steel case with the original crown has elegant, long multi-facete lugs and is polished on the face and brushed on the side. It is in very fine condition, with some wear, most prominent on the left case side. The stainless steel case back is in fine condition with a well preserved Seiko Cronos special finish engraving and some overall wear. Note that even the underside of lugs have been particularly finished, with mirror polishing and a wavey surface. The case appears to never have been polished.
The watch comes on an after market leather strap and buckle of good quality.
Inside the watch, Seiko’s high grade 54-00-2 movement beats strongly and accurately to within about +-12 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in July 2022 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.
Seiko went all out with the finishing on this very rare watch and finding on in this condition is not easy. This is a gem of a watch that will add to any collection while also being a wonderful watch to wear as part of a regular rotation schedule.
