Here is a fabulous, all original Seiko “Baby Panda” from 1971. The silver sunburst dial is in excellent condition, with a steel Seiko logo and barely any marks. It has steel bar hour markers with lume dots at the outer ends and two sunken black subdials for the chronograph hour and minute counters, at 12 and 6 o’clock respectively. The rehaut has a black tachymeter ring and also a silver seconds marking ring. The baton hands are in fine condition with the original lume intact. The center chronograph seconds hand is black with an orange/yellow tip. The steel framed windows at 3 o’clock displays the weekday in Kanji and English and the date, both of which can be quick-set. This function should only be used with the hour hand at the bottom of the dial.

The stainless steel bezel is in fine condition with some overall wear, such as at around 3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock. The large and chunky stainless steel case with the original crown and pushers and integrated lugs is in fine condition, with a horizontally brushed face and vertically brushed sides. It shows some overall wear both on the face and the sides, perhaps most prominent a few marks at the outside of the upper left lug. The stainless steel case back is in fine condition, with the Seiko and Suwa logos and a few notable scratches and marks. The case does not appear to ever have been polished.

The watch comes on an after market leather strap of good quality with the original Seiko buckle in fine condition.

Inside the watch, Seiko’s high grade caliber 6138B beats strongly and accurately to within about +-12 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in January 2026 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.

The Baby Panda is not only a fun watch to wear, it is also a very collectible watch that was made only for a couple of years in the early 1970’s. This specimen looks great on the wrist with its chunky case and great overall condition.
