Here is a wonderful, all original King Seiko KS56 Hi-Beat from 1970. The silver sunburst dial is in very fine condition, with steel Seiko and KS logos and steel railroad style hour markers with black contrast stripes, twin markers at 12 o’clock. There are a few discoloration spots around the edge of the dial, such as at 2, 3 and 8 o’clock. The tapered steel hands are in fine condition, with the characteristic black contrast stripe down the middle. The hour hand shows some wear on the black contrast. The hack stops the seconds hand when the crown is pulled out to set the time, so the time can be set more accurately. The steel framed window at 3 o’clock shows the date, which can be quick-set with the crown pulled out to the middle position. The quick-set should only be done with the hour hand at the bottom half of the dial.
The stainless steel bezel is in fine condition with some overall wear, perhaps most notable at around 8 o’clock. The large and angular case with the original KS crown is in fine condition, with a brushed finish and light overall wear, perhaps most prominent a scuff at the tip of the case where it meets the bezel at around 11 o’clock. The stainless steel case back is in very fine condition, with a slightly tarnished gold KS medallion and only light overall wear.
The original stainless steel bracelet is in fine condition with a few marks mostly on the double fold clasp, and with light stretching. It is large enough for moderately big wrists. Make sure the specific bracelet size listed in the details is not too small for your wrist as finding spare links for old bracelets is very difficult. The bracelet can be shortened by up to about 2cm simply by moving a spring bar in the clasp.
Inside the watch, Seiko’s high grade, Hi-Beat 5625A movement beats strongly and accurately to within about +-10 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in March 2025 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.
The wonderful overall condition and large case makes this a great daily driver that is a joy to have on your wrist. The King Seiko line combined leading technology with unique and recognizable designs and this is a great example of that.
