Here is a fantastic, all original Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox E855 from 1966 in a very large size for the era. The silver dial is in very fine condition, with a separate chapter ring and inner dial. The chapter ring has a golden JLC logo with black paint at 12 o’clock and golden bar hour markers with central lume stripes, twin markers at 6 and 9 o’clock. At the inner rim of the chapter ring is a minute track with lume dots for the hours. Under magnification, slight discoloration can be seen around the lume dots. The inner radially brushed silver dial is in fine condition, with a golden lume filled triangle showing the alarm position and a few small marks of wear. It rotates to accurately set the alarm. The golden dauphine hands with the original lume intact are in very fine condition. The golden framed window at 3 o’clock displays the date, which can be semi quick-set by first turning the hands through midnight so the date changes, then immediately turning the hands backwards to 22:00 and then forward through midnight again. Repeat as necessary.
The alarm is set with the top crown. Winding the spring for the alarm is done by rotating the crown while fully depressed. By pulling the crown out one can rotate the inner dial to set the arrow at the desired alarm time. When the set time is reached the alarm buzzes loudly for about 15-20 seconds when fully wound. When the crown is in the outer position the alarm does not ring.
The solid 18k gold case with the original crowns and long, curved lugs is in very fine condition with a few marks of wear on both the face and sides, perhaps most notable a few small scratches at around 1 o’clock on the face. The stainless steel case back is in very fine condition with light overall wear. The case back is of steel rather than gold given that the rather violent action of the alarm hammer would damage the softer material of gold. The case does not appear to ever have been polished.
The watch comes on an after market leather strap and buckle of good quality.
Inside the watch, LeCoultre’s high grade K825 bumper automatic movement beats strongly and accurately to within about +12 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in September 2025 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.
The E855 is one of the most iconic versions of the already iconic Memovox. This a watch you will love to wear, and seeing people’s faces when the alarm goes off is priceless. The bumper automatic tops this off to make for something very special to have on your wrist.
Our watches are delivered in a luxury wooden watch box, fully serviced with a 12 month warranty that covers the mechanical functioning of the watch under normal use. We offer 14 days full return rights and are very proud of our reputation for outstanding customer satisfaction.
