Here is a wonderful, all original IWC caliber 89 from 1969. The brushed silver dial is in excellent condition, with a steel IWC block logo and the script logo underneath. It has faceted steel bar hour markers with lume dots at the outer ends, double markers at the poles. The steel sword hands are in fine condition, with some wear visible under close inspection.
The stainless steel bezel/watch face is in good condition with some overall wear and a few deeper marks at around 4 and 10 o’clock. The stainless steel case with the original fish crown and heavy batman lugs is in fine condition with some overall wear, most visible at the face of the lugs but also on the outside of in particular the upper right lug. The case back is in fine condition with some overall wear. The case does not appear to ever have been polished.
The watch comes on an after market leather strap and buckle of good quality.
Inside the watch, IWC’s legendary caliber 89 movement beats strongly and accurately to within about +-10 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in August 2024 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.
This is a rather late version of the caliber 89, sporting both the block and script IWC logo. It has that wonderful vintage look a lot of collectors look for, and when combined with one of the best movements ever made, this is a keeper.
